With the temperature finally starting to fall and the days getting a little shorter, it can only mean one thing: harvest time. September is prime picking season for grapes used in wine production, one of Missouri’s reveled traditions. For nearly two centuries, the Show-Me State’s sun-drenched rolling hills and long growing seasons have produced quality wines from some of the most picturesque wineries in the Midwest.

Featured on our cover this month is Charleville Vineyard Winery and Microbrewery, nestled in the hills of western Ste. Genevieve County. Not only is Charleville a working vineyard, the business, served by Citizens Electric Corporation, also brews a selection of specialty beers.

Owned and operated by Jack and Joal Russell, Charleville is a place where wine connoisseurs and beer enthusiasts can come together and enjoy a tasty beverage.

Charleville, along with several other wineries nearby along the Route du Vin wine trail, is a perfect place to bring a picnic lunch, then sit back and take in the rustic country setting. You can make it a pleasant afternoon by visiting the five other wineries located within a short drive.

Visitors can sample the handcrafted wines or beers before purchasing them. With more than 20 wines and beer selections available, it is hard to find something you won’t like.
Charleville’s vineyard and tasting room are open from noon to 6 p.m. on Wednesdays and Thursdays and from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Fridays through Sundays.

Adjacent to the tasting room and pictured on the cover is a refurbished 1860s log cabin that serves as a two-room bed and breakfast for guests on weekends.
