1-1/2 pounds lean ground beef
1 cup oats (quick or old-fashioned, uncooked)
1/4 cup onion, finely chopped
1 egg, lightly beaten
1 can (8-ounce) tomato sauce
1/2 teaspoon black pepper
1/3 cup mayonnaise
2 tablespoons ketchup
8 large (4-by-6-inches each) slices of cheddar cheese
8 strips bacon, cooked and halved
2 medium tomatoes, sliced
8 hoagie buns, split and toasted

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Spray a 9-by-13-inch pan with non-stick cooking spray.

For meatloaf: Combine ground beef, oats, onion, egg, tomato sauce and black pepper in a large bowl. Mix lightly but thoroughly. Press mixture into the pan, covering bottom entirely.

Bake for 30 to 35 minutes or until meatloaf is done medium (160 degrees) and center is no longer pink. Drain off any juices. Heat broiler.

In a small bowl, combine mayonnaise and ketchup; mix well. Spread over hot meatloaf, completely covering. Cut meatloaf into eight rectangles. Do not remove them from the pan. Top each with a slice of cheese, two half pieces of bacon and tomato slices. Broil 5 to 6 inches from heat source for 2 to 3 minutes or until cheese melts. Serve on buns.
