1 cabbage head, cut into thick slices
2 tablespoons butter
2 tablespoons flour
Salt and pepper to taste
1 cup milk
1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
1/2 cup crushed buttery crackers
Steam cabbage until just fork tender, about 10-15 minutes. Drain well. Pour into a large bowl and set aside.
In a saucepan, melt the butter. Stir in flour, salt and pepper. Slowly stir in milk. Cook, stirring constantly, until thickened. Add cheese and stir until melted. Pour mixture over cabbage and mix well. Pour mixture into a lightly greased baking dish. Sprinkle with cracker crumbs. Bake at 350 degrees for 25 minutes.
