3 quarts unsweetened apple cider
1/4 cup firmly packed brown sugar
2 medium-size unpeeled oranges, cut into
1/2-inch slices
1 lemon, cut into 1/2-inch slices
2 3-inch cinnamon sticks
8 whole cloves
6 whole allspice
6 whole cardamom
3/4 cup Chablis or other dry white wine
Fresh cranberries (optional)

Combine unsweetened apple cider with next seven ingredients in a large pot; bring to a boil. Cover, reduce heat, and simmer 10 minutes. Strain mixture; discard fruit and spices. Add wine and simmer until thoroughly heated. To serve, garnish with cranberries, if desired. Makes 3 quarts. Punch can also be made without wine if desired.
