About Us

The Association of Missouri Electric Cooperatives first published the Rural Electric Missourian in 1948 as a way to communicate with its statewide electric cooperative members about electrical safety and news pertinent to the co-ops.

The magazine has changed a lot since that first issue, including the name change to Rural Missouri, however this publication continues to serve as the most robust way to communicate with Missouri’s 570,000 rural electric cooperative members.

Each month, Rural Missouri brings you entertaining and informative features on some of the Show-Me State’s most fascinating people and businesses. We highlight Missouri’s delicious dining destinations and road-trip worthy getaways. Our Neighbors section highlights the one-of-a-kind characters that make Missouri so unique.

We are also the first source of news about the cooperative electric utility industry in Missouri and provide vital information to cooperative member-owners at the end of the line through our statewide articles or in the local pages many Missouri cooperatives include in the magazine each month.
