6 tart apples
1 can red tart cherries, drained
1/2 cup sugar
2-3/4 cups brown sugar
3 teaspoons cinnamon
2 teaspoons nutmeg
2-1/2 cups flour
1 cup butter
1/2 cup almonds
1/4 cup powdered sugar

Core, peel and slice apples 1/4-inch thick. Place apples and drained cherries into a greased 9-inch by 13-inch pan. In a medium bowl, mix sugar, 3/4 cup brown sugar, cinnamon and nutmeg. Sprinkle mixture over the apples.
Mix the flour, 2 cups brown sugar and butter (it will be the texture of cornmeal); fold in almonds. Sprinkle flour mixture over the fruit evenly to form a crust.
Bake at 350 degrees for 45 minutes or until golden brown. Let cool 15 minutes. Sift powdered sugar lightly over the crust. Serve warm.
