1st: Flat Branch Pub & Brewing, Columbia; 573-499-0400

Outdoor dining became more popular than ever in the past year with restaurants finding ways to safely accommodate guests. Flat Branch has been a staple in downtown Columbia for students, professors and everyone else since it opened its doors in 1994. Its expansive patio is the ideal setting for their World Famous Chokes ’n Cheese and a pint of Katy Trail Pale Ale.

2nd: Fernweh Distilling Co., Hermann; 573-486-2970

Relax outside and on the patio at Fernweh and watch boats meander along the Missouri River or the Amtrak come to a stop in downtown Hermann. The craft cocktails aren’t the only thing bringing people to Fernweh, it’s the food as well. So pick a nice spring day with beautiful weather and pair it with Fernweh’s scratch-made spinach artichoke dip or their brisket grilled cheese.

EC: Boondocks Kitchen, Phillipsburg; 417-664-5386

The vast outdoor dining area behind Boondocks Kitchen is the ideal spot to try one of Chef Carl Jackson’s delectable creations. Boondocks is best known for their house-smoked barbecue along with their made-from-scratch craft pizzas. With delicious food and ample seating to spread out less than one-quarter mile from Interstate 44 — not to mention a craft brewery next door — it’s easy to get to Boondocks, but hard to leave.
